ARTIST STATEMENT

Printmaking allows for an accessible and shareable form of art both in cost and function and the community aspect of the media changed my entire view on art in general. My subjects are often overlooked aspect of domestic life but what I wish to accomplish in my work is the process of it all, whether that be our place in our community or what brings us comfort in our own daily routine. The process of printmaking and stone lithography particularly allows for me to explore texture and markmarking through reductive techniques and allowing the viewer a look into the energy and process in creating each print.

BIO

Originally from Manchester, NH, Julia attended the New Hampshire Institute of Art receiving her bachelor’s in Printmaking and Fine Art in 2018. While an undergrad she was co-founder of The Millennial Press and interned at The Chair City Community workshop in Gardner, MA. She currently lives and works in Portland with her partner, dog and cat, and a 400lb printing press in her living room. She also works as a Tasting Room Ambassador here at Rising Tide so feel free to ask her about anything related to beer or printmaking!
